Your finance function — from bookkeeping to CFO. One senior advisor.
Arthur Financial Advisory runs the finance function for small and mid-sized businesses — daily accounting, a disciplined monthly close, management reporting, forecasting, and CFO-level counsel — as one monthly engagement, sized to what your business needs today.
Senior CPA-led. One dedicated advisor — never delegated, never handed off. Deep NetSuite and QuickBooks Online expertise.
Senior finance leadership, without the full-time hire.
A full-time controller and a full-time CFO are six-figure commitments most growing companies don't need year-round — but the work still has to happen. Books have to close on time. Lenders, investors, and boards expect credible reporting. Cash has to be forecast, not guessed. Our fractional model gives you the discipline of a real finance department for a fraction of the cost of a single hire — and every plan gives you access to both controller- and CFO-level capability.
How the plans work
Every engagement is a monthly retainer with a set number of service hours — predictable, senior-level work with no surprise invoices. The plans build on each other, so you start where you are and move up or down as your needs change. Broadly, they fall into four levels:
The accounting foundation — Starter, Core Accounting, and Core Accounting Plus. The essentials, handled reliably: monthly bookkeeping, bank and credit card reconciliations, and monthly financial statements. Core Accounting adds full AP management — bill payment and wire setup, with every payment approved by you — plus transaction processing. Core Accounting Plus adds accounts receivable oversight and reporting.
Controller level — Controller and Controller Plus. This is where we take ownership of the monthly close: a disciplined close calendar, customized monthly and quarterly management reports, and tighter accounting systems and controls — not just books that are done, but numbers you can rely on. Controller Plus adds a rolling cash flow forecast and quarterly business reviews with management, so you always know where cash is headed. This is our most popular starting point.
CFO level — CFO Advisory + Controller. Everything the controller level delivers, plus the forward-looking work: budgets and projections, KPI dashboards, and strategic input on pricing, unit economics, and transactions — counsel that stands up in front of lenders, investors, and boards.
The full department — Full Finance Function and Enterprise. Your complete finance function, end to end: full AP and close ownership, board and investor reporting, financing and capital support, and strategic projects. Enterprise is built for higher-volume businesses with in-house accounting staff — we oversee and review your team's work, run a heavier close, and take on ongoing special projects, adding senior leadership without adding headcount.

Controller vs. CFO — and why you get both
A controller looks backward with precision: the close, the reconciliations, the reports, the controls — making sure the numbers are right and on time. A CFO looks forward: budgets, forecasts, pricing, capital, and what the numbers mean for the decisions ahead. Most growing companies need some of both, in different doses at different times. Because every plan is served by one senior advisor with both skill sets, you never have to choose — the mix flexes with your business.
Every plan includes
- A dedicated senior advisor — the person you talk to is the person doing the work
- Deep NetSuite and QuickBooks Online expertise
- Coordination with your tax preparer and other advisors
- Deliverables in clear, plain language — financial guidance should inform decisions, not obscure them
Frequently asked questions
Which plan is right for us? That's exactly what the free consultation is for: where your books stand today, what you need, and which plan fits. Start conservatively — moving between plans takes an email, not a renegotiation.
We already have a bookkeeper. Do we replace them? No. At the controller and CFO levels we often work as the senior layer above your existing staff — reviewing work, running the close, and delivering the reporting. If you'd rather consolidate everything with us, we can do that too.
What if we outgrow our plan? Hours beyond your plan are billed hourly and always discussed with you first. If it keeps happening, that's usually the signal to move up a tier — and we'll tell you so.
What systems do you work in? NetSuite and QuickBooks Online, in your instance — your data stays yours. We'll also coordinate with the rest of your stack: payroll, bill pay, and reporting tools.
How does onboarding work? Access, a review of where the books stand, and a close calendar — with your first monthly close typically delivered in the first full month of the engagement.
Running a SPAC or another public company? Public-company reporting is its own practice at Arthur Financial Advisory — see our dedicated SPAC & SEC Reporting Services.
Your close shouldn't depend on who's available.
